President William Ruto has congratulated Professor Phoebe Okowa following her election as a Judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In a statement, Ruto said Okowa secured the requisite majority votes in both the United Nations General Assembly and the UN Security Council to win the position.
The President described her election as a moment of pride for Kenya, saying it reflected the country’s legal expertise, integrity and contribution to the international community.
He wished Okowa success as she takes up the responsibility, expressing confidence that she would advance the court’s mandate of upholding international law and promoting the peaceful resolution of disputes among nations.
“Kenya is proud of you,” Ruto said.
