A murder suspect accused of killing Sheila Odoyo in Athi River in May 2024 has been arrested in Tanzania following a two-year manhunt and a joint operation involving Kenyan and Tanzanian law enforcement agencies.

Odoyo was found murdered inside her house on the morning of May 9, 2024, prompting investigations into her death.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives later received intelligence placing the suspect in Kirongwe, Shirati District, Tanzania, where he was reportedly operating a club about 70 kilometres from the Muhuru border point.

Detectives from Athi River, working with their counterparts in Nyatike and Tanzanian law enforcement officers, conducted an operation that led to his arrest.

The suspect was identified as Jackson Otieno Bambo, also known as James Babu Olang, who is Odoyo’s husband.

The DCI said he was found in possession of a Tanzanian national identity card bearing the name James Babu Olang at the time of his arrest.

Following his arrest, Bambo was booked at Nyatike Police Station before being transferred to Athi River Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment on a murder charge.

The arrest marks a development in the investigation into Odoyo’s death, which had remained unresolved for more than two years.
