A volunteer with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, Badr al-Din Omar Musa, has been killed while carrying out humanitarian duties in Sudan’s Blue Nile Region.
The death has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of humanitarian workers operating in conflict-affected areas, where aid personnel face growing risks while assisting vulnerable communities.
In a statement, the organisation expressed heartbreak over Musa’s death, condemning the continued loss of humanitarian personnel and calling on those bearing arms to take all necessary measures to protect aid workers.
“The continued loss of humanitarian personnel is unacceptable,” the statement read.
The organisation further urged armed actors to uphold the principles that allow humanitarian assistance to reach people in need, emphasising the importance of ensuring the safety of those delivering critical aid.
Humanitarian workers play a vital role in providing emergency assistance to communities affected by conflict, displacement and other crises. Their protection remains essential to ensuring that lifesaving support reaches vulnerable populations.
Musa’s death adds to concerns over the dangers faced by humanitarian personnel working to support communities caught up in Sudan’s ongoing crisis.
