Sunderland suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday after an early red card left them facing an uphill task at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth took the lead through Marcus Tavernier in the sixth minute, putting Sunderland under immediate pressure.

The visitors’ challenge became more difficult when Kevin Danso was sent off, leaving Sunderland to continue the contest with 10 men.

Bournemouth capitalised on their numerical advantage after the break, with Evanilson scoring in the 48th minute to double the hosts’ lead.

Sunderland struggled to recover from the early setback as Bournemouth protected their advantage to secure all three points.

The defeat was another disappointment for Sunderland in the league, following an inconsistent start to their campaign. The result also gave Bournemouth a valuable boost as they looked to move away from the relegation zone.

Sunderland will now look to respond in their next league fixture when they host Leeds United on October 25.
