Detectives from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters have arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged investment fraud involving KSh4.95 million.

The suspect, Harrison Njeru Muthika, was arrested following investigations into a complaint by a man who alleged that he was induced to invest money in foreign exchange (Forex) and cryptocurrency trading.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the complainant transferred a total of KSh4,950,000 to the suspect through several transactions between April 30 and July 2, 2025, after being promised that the funds would be invested in the two trading ventures.

Investigations led to a review of the case file by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). A court subsequently issued an arrest warrant, paving the way for Muthika’s arrest.

The suspect is being held in custody pending arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts, where he is expected to face charges relating to cheating, operating an unauthorised collective investment scheme, fraudulently inducing trading in securities, and the acquisition and use of proceeds of crime.

The allegations have not been determined in court.

The DCI has urged members of the public to exercise caution before investing in Forex and cryptocurrency ventures, particularly those promising lucrative returns. It also advised prospective investors to verify the legitimacy and regulatory status of investment schemes before committing their money.
