Detectives have arrested a third suspect in connection with a Sh1 million daylight robbery targeting two women along the Shamakhokho–Serem road in an incident that occurred on October 19, 2026.
The latest arrest follows an intelligence-led operation involving detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Western Region, officers from Embali Police Station in Emuhaya Sub-County and detectives from DCI Hamisi.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Sammy Angwegwe, was arrested in the Esirulo area of Emuhaya, becoming the third person to be apprehended in connection with the robbery.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred shortly after the victim and her friend withdrew Sh1 million from a bank in Mbale, with the money intended for the purchase of building materials.
The two women had boarded a matatu before alighting at Shamakhokho stage, where they hired a motorcycle to travel to Chemobo Village in Nandi County.
However, their journey was violently interrupted near Erusui Girls School when a white Toyota Probox blocked their way.
Four men reportedly emerged from the vehicle, two of them armed with pistols, before confronting the women and making away with a shopping bag containing the Sh1 million.
The assailants also stole another bag containing the victim’s personal valuables before fleeing towards Serem Town.
The robbery prompted detectives from DCI Hamisi to launch investigations and pursue the suspects.
Angwegwe’s arrest adds to the two suspects already in custody over the incident.
The three suspects remain in custody as detectives process them ahead of their arraignment in court, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have been involved in the robbery.
