Two men have been arrested after detectives uncovered a suspected counterfeit juice operation at a homestead in Muthua, Kabete.
The operation was discovered after a member of the public alerted police, prompting detectives from Kabete Police Station to raid the premises.
Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala were arrested at the homestead, where police said they found them allegedly producing counterfeit juice.
A search of the premises uncovered about 1,400 filled 200ml and 300ml bottles, as well as 56 cartons of empty bottles and five packets of bottle tops.
Detectives also recovered two blue drums, three basins, glue, rubber stamps, ink and assorted stickers.
Among the items seized was an expired certificate authorising the use of the Standardisation Mark for a well-known juice brand.
Police further recovered assorted powdery and colourless substances packed in small portions and bottles, which were taken as exhibits.
Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the premises as detectives secured the recovered items for further investigation.
The two suspects remain in custody as investigations into the alleged counterfeiting operation continue.
Authorities have warned that counterfeit beverages produced outside regulated manufacturing environments can pose risks to consumers, while also affecting legitimate businesses and government tax revenue.
