Two former public officers have been charged after allegedly using forged academic certificates to secure government jobs.
Kenneth Mwiti Kiogora, a former Second Clerk Assistant at the Kiambu County Assembly, and Daniel Mukoya Olando, a former Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) employee, were separately arraigned.
They appeared at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court after being arrested on Wednesday. The two denied the charges.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Mwiti allegedly presented a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate purporting to have been issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) when seeking employment at the Kiambu County Assembly.
EACC further alleges that he obtained public funds amounting to KSh6.28 million in salaries through the disputed qualification.
Mwiti faces charges of fraudulent acquisition of public property, forgery, uttering a false document and deceiving a principal.
In the second case, Mukoya is accused of using a forged Bachelor of Commerce degree certificate in Accounting to secure appointment as an Acting Fire Supervisor at KAA.
He faces charges of knowingly using a false or misleading document, forgery, uttering a false document and giving false information.
The EACC said investigations into the two cases were completed before the files were forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who concurred with the recommendations to charge the suspects.
The court granted Mwiti a KSh150,000 cash bail or a KSh1 million bond with a surety of a similar amount.
Mukoya was released on KSh100,000 cash bail or a KSh500,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
EACC said it will also pursue civil proceedings to recover salaries and other benefits it alleges were obtained through the use of the disputed academic qualifications.
