The United Nations has warned of a high risk of atrocities in Sudan’s El Obeid, where civilians remain caught between widespread violence, severe deprivation and fear.

In a statement shared by UN Geneva, the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan said a new report details the worsening conditions facing residents in the city.

The mission, established by the UN Human Rights Council, raised concerns over the risks facing civilians as violence and hardship continue to affect the area.

The report highlights the urgent need to protect civilians amid the deteriorating situation in El Obeid.
