Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has declared her interest in becoming President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election, signalling her ambition to secure a national leadership position after completing her final term as county boss.
Waiguru confirmed her intentions, saying she would formally present her bid if an opportunity arose to contest for the Deputy President’s position.
“I am going to put in my bid if there’s a bid for the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya,” she said.
The governor, who is serving her final term in Kirinyaga County, expressed confidence in pursuing higher political ambitions, suggesting that she was prepared to aim for the country’s top leadership opportunities.
Waiguru used a metaphor to describe her political ambitions, saying she was “shooting for the stars so that if she doesn’t succeed, she could land on the moon.”
Her declaration places her among leaders positioning themselves for influential roles in the 2027 political contest, as attention increasingly turns to the question of who could deputise President Ruto should he seek re-election.
