Thirteen candidates in Nairobi County have failed to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations since they began on Monday, November 2, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has said.
Speaking after witnessing the opening of an examination container in Kibra, Ogamba said Ministry of Education officials had been mobilised to trace the missing candidates and establish their whereabouts.
The officials will work alongside local chiefs, assistant chiefs and Nyumba Kumi teams to locate the candidates and encourage them to return to school and continue with their examinations.
The CS also revealed that three other candidates from different counties had died since the national examinations began.
On examination malpractice, Ogamba said the government had strengthened measures to detect irregularities, including the use of photographs to monitor and verify examination-related information.
The 2026 KCSE examinations began on Monday, November 2, with the government seeking to ensure that all registered candidates get an opportunity to complete their papers.
