Uganda has reported no confirmed Ebola cases since declaring its Bundibugyo virus disease outbreak over on July 28, 2026, with 60 contacts linked to a recent case involving a Kenyan traveller completing their monitoring period without developing symptoms.
Uganda’s Health Minister, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, announced that all 60 contacts had completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring period and had been discharged.
He reassured the public that Kasese had no confirmed Ebola cases and had recorded no deaths from the disease, while warning that continued vigilance was necessary amid ongoing transmission in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Ministry of Health has strengthened screening at border points and Entebbe International Airport, alongside community surveillance and cross-border coordination, to prevent the spread of the disease.
As part of regional response efforts, Uganda has also supported the establishment of three treatment units in the DRC, with a combined capacity of 240 beds.
Baryomunsi urged the public to continue observing health measures and called for stronger regional cooperation to contain Ebola at its source and protect communities from further infections.
