Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa has warned candidates, teachers and examination officials against engaging in examination irregularities as the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) commenced across the country on Monday.

Ololtuaa cautioned those involved in administering the national assessments against violating examination regulations, warning that anyone found culpable would face legal consequences.

Speaking at the Mbita Sub-County headquarters in Homa Bay County, where he presided over the opening of an examination container carrying KPSEA and KJSEA materials, the PS said the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) had established rules that must be strictly observed throughout the examination period.

He stressed that candidates, teachers, invigilators and other personnel involved in the exercise were expected to uphold the integrity of the assessments.

Ololtuaa warned that punitive legal measures would be taken against individuals found engaging in examination malpractice.

The PS, who was accompanied by Homa Bay County Commissioner Ronald Mwiwawi and other senior government officials, said adequate preparations had been made to ensure examination materials reached designated centres on time.

He expressed confidence that the assessments would proceed smoothly, adding that arrangements had also been put in place to ensure personnel involved in the examination process, including invigilators and markers, were paid promptly.

Meanwhile, Mwiwawi assured candidates, parents and education stakeholders of adequate security during the examination period.

The county commissioner said security personnel had been deployed to safeguard examination materials, centres and personnel involved in administering the assessments.

The commencement of KPSEA and KJSEA marks a key phase in the country’s competency-based education assessment programme, with authorities urging all stakeholders to ensure the examinations are conducted fairly, securely and in accordance with established regulations.
