Embakasi East Member of Parliament and Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Babu Owino has challenged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to face him in court, accusing the county leadership of failing Nairobi residents amid the ongoing tragedy involving a collapsed building in the city.

In a strongly worded social media post, Owino said he would not apologise for his criticism of the governor, insisting that those responsible for the suffering of Nairobi residents must be held accountable.

“I will not apologise to a man who has destroyed the lives of Nairobians. He MUST answer for the suffering of Nairobians,” Owino declared.

The legislator expressed concern over the ongoing rescue operations, noting that families were enduring anguish as efforts continued to locate people trapped beneath the rubble of the collapsed building.

“People are dying. Families are living in agony, and Nairobians remain trapped beneath a collapsed building,” he said, adding that every life lost represented a family whose world had been shattered.

Owino further demanded answers and accountability from the county leadership, arguing that Nairobi residents deserved justice rather than excuses or attempts to silence those questioning how the tragedy occurred.

“Nairobians deserve answers, accountability and justice; not excuses, arrogance or attempts to silence those demanding answers,” he stated.

The MP maintained that he would not be intimidated and warned against allowing the incident to fade from public scrutiny without those responsible being held to account.

“If you have nothing to hide, answer the hard questions. We shall meet in court,” Owino said.

His remarks signal a further escalation of political tensions between the Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant and Governor Sakaja, with the building collapse emerging as a focal point of demands for accountability over safety and oversight in the capital.

The dispute comes as rescue teams continue efforts to locate people who may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.
