The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has called on surveyors to uphold professional integrity and protect public land amid concerns over the long-term effects of corruption in the land sector.

EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde made the remarks while addressing the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK) Africa Regional Conference in Naivasha, where he urged practitioners to exercise diligence and professionalism in decisions involving land ownership, use and management.

Oginde warned that corruption involving land could have lasting consequences for communities and future generations, noting that land has historically been a major source of conflict in Kenya.

“The tragedy of land-related corruption has serious consequences that can endure for a very long time,” he said.

He challenged surveyors to prioritise the public interest and safeguard Kenya’s land heritage for future generations.

The EACC chairperson also highlighted asset recovery as a key pillar of the commission’s Strategic Plan, reaffirming its commitment to recovering public assets.

ISK President Eric Nyadimo urged members to maintain professional standards and pledged the institution’s continued cooperation with the anti-graft agency.

The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding in September 2026 to strengthen collaboration in promoting integrity within the land sector.

The conference, taking place from October 29 to 30, 2026, is themed “Catalyzing Sustainable Investment: The Role of Surveyors in the Blue, Green, and Built Economies.”

It brings together professionals to examine the role of surveyors in sustainable investment, environmental protection and infrastructure development.
