Former Senate Majority Leader Samuel Poghisio has officially defected from the Kenya African National Union (KANU) to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Poghisio reportedly made the move alongside seven sitting Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), strengthening ODM’s political presence in West Pokot County.

The former senator is said to be eyeing the West Pokot gubernatorial seat in the upcoming elections, setting the stage for a potentially competitive race for the county’s top leadership position.

His defection could reshape the political landscape in West Pokot as parties and aspirants intensify efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 polls.

Poghisio previously served as Senate Majority Leader, making him one of the notable political figures in the region.
