Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has paid tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying his leadership philosophy centred on justice, courage and service to the people rather than power or titles.
Speaking during commemorations marking Raila’s first death anniversary, Babu said the former Prime Minister left behind important lessons on what it means to be a true leader.
“Baba taught us one thing: that leadership is not about power. Leadership is not about titles. It is not about the names that we have, but leadership is about the courage to defend justice and service delivery,” Babu stated.
The legislator emphasised that leadership should be measured by a leader’s willingness to stand up for justice and address the needs of ordinary citizens, rather than the positions they hold or the influence they command.
Babu’s remarks highlighted Raila’s legacy as a political figure whose public life was closely associated with calls for democratic reforms, social justice and accountable leadership.
As Kenyans continue to reflect on Raila’s contribution to the country, the MP’s tribute underscored the need for leaders to uphold the principles the former Prime Minister championed by prioritising the welfare of citizens.
His message also served as a reminder that public office carries the responsibility of delivering meaningful services and defending the rights of the people.
