A Democratic Republic of Congo opposition leader, Prince Epenge, has been brought before the prosecutor’s office at the Kinshasa/Gombe High Court following 48 hours in detention at the National Council for Cybercrime.
Epenge, president of ADDCongo, second vice-president and spokesperson of the Lamuka opposition coalition, and a member of the C64, was detained in connection with a case linked to the death of Manasse Lomboto.
In a statement, a political figure denounced the detention and called for respect for Epenge’s fundamental rights, warning against using him as a scapegoat.
Lomboto died following violence on September 15, 2026, which the statement attributed to the “Force du progrès,” a militia associated with the ruling UDPS/Tshisekedi party.
The statement called for an independent, impartial and thorough investigation into Lomboto’s death and urged authorities to examine a complaint filed by C64 lawyers without delay.
It further called for investigators to establish individual criminal responsibility, including any hierarchical and operational links, without political interference or unequal treatment under the law.
The circumstances surrounding Epenge’s detention and the specific allegations against him were not detailed in the statement.
