Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Vice Chairperson Dr Monica Wanjiru Muiru has underscored the importance of asset recovery in strengthening public trust and promoting accountability in public institutions.

Dr Muiru said recovering assets acquired through corruption and returning them for public benefit demonstrates the impact of anti-corruption efforts and helps restore confidence in government institutions.

She made the remarks while representing the Commission at the Trust Summit 2026 – Nairobi Dialogue on Global Trust, held at Glee Hotel in Nairobi from October 21 to 23, 2026.

Speaking during a leadership session titled “Standing on Solid Ground of Democratic Values,” moderated by journalist Janet Mbugua, Dr Muiru highlighted asset recovery as a practical way of translating integrity commitments into tangible benefits for citizens.

She also challenged participants to take personal responsibility in the fight against corruption, noting that building an ethical society requires collective action from both public institutions and individuals.

According to the EACC, the summit provides a platform for strengthening partnerships and promoting accountable leadership, credible institutions and practical commitments aimed at rebuilding public confidence.

The Commission welcomed the summit’s focus on restoring trust, reaffirming the importance of shared responsibility in promoting integrity and accountability in public life.

The remarks come amid continued efforts to strengthen anti-corruption initiatives and ensure that public resources are protected and used for the benefit of citizens.
