Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga has held talks with a World Bank delegation on strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system, with a focus on emergency preparedness and improving access to quality medical services.
The meeting, held on Monday, October 26, brought together Oluga and a delegation led by Dr Ronald Mutasa, the World Bank’s Practice Manager for Eastern and Southern Africa.
According to the Ministry of Health, the discussions focused on strategic priorities, ongoing programmes and areas requiring closer collaboration between the government and development partners.
A key item on the agenda was the Health Emergencies Preparedness, Response and Resilience (HEPRR) Project, which aims to strengthen Kenya’s capacity to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing engagements and planned activities, with both sides highlighting the importance of coordinated planning and effective implementation in achieving national health goals.
Oluga reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with development partners to strengthen the resilience of the health system, expand access to quality healthcare and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The engagement comes as Kenya continues efforts to strengthen health service delivery and improve its preparedness for public health emergencies.
