Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi ,has called for an end to the live streaming of election results, arguing that the practice could heighten tensions and trigger violence during elections.
In a post shared on social media, Itumbi proposed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should invite media representatives to cover the results only after they have been finalised and announced.
“Live streaming of Election results may heighten violence. I think it should be abolished and the IEBC invites the media once the results are out,” Itumbi stated.
He further urged Kenyans to have confidence in the electoral commission, insisting that the country should trust the IEBC to manage the electoral process.
“We should trust the IEBC,” he added.
Itumbi’s remarks raise questions about the role of live media coverage in promoting electoral transparency, public confidence and accountability, particularly during the transmission, verification and announcement of election results.
Itumbi’s proposal comes amid ongoing discussions about electoral credibility, transparency and the need to maintain peace during election periods.
