Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has responded to Winnie Odinga’s declaration of interest in the Nairobi Senate seat, signalling a potentially competitive political contest ahead.
In a social media post, Jalang’o declared, “To the wire — I am ready!” shortly after Winnie indicated her interest in the Nairobi Senate race during events marking the anniversary of her father, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in Bondo.
Jalang’o’s remarks have sparked political interest, with the statement appearing to signal his readiness for a contest following Winnie’s latest political move.
Winnie, the daughter of the late ODM leader, has attracted attention over her political ambitions as discussions intensify around the future of the Orange Democratic Movement and its leadership following Raila’s death.
The Nairobi Senate seat is expected to attract considerable political attention as aspirants position themselves ahead of the next General Election.
However, Jalang’o’s brief statement did not explicitly confirm whether he intends to contest the Senate seat, leaving questions about his next political move.
The developments could set the stage for an interesting political battle in Nairobi if both leaders ultimately enter the race.
