Kisii Governor Simba Arati has credited the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for playing a pivotal role in his political journey, saying the veteran politician helped him rise from a nominated councillor to a county governor.
Speaking while reflecting on Raila’s political legacy, Arati recounted how the former ODM leader supported him during his early days in politics, including ensuring he secured his nomination certificate to serve at the Nairobi City Council, commonly known as City Hall.
“Raila nominated me as a councillor in City Hall. When the certificate was being stolen, Baba made sure I got that certificate,” Arati stated.
The Kisii governor further recalled serving as a Member of Parliament for 10 years before eventually ascending to the county’s top leadership position.
“I was a Member of Parliament for 10 years. Today, I am a governor courtesy of Raila Odinga,” he added.
Arati’s remarks highlight Raila’s influence on the political careers of several leaders who rose through the ranks under his political patronage, particularly within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
The governor’s tribute also underscores the late opposition chief’s enduring political legacy and the role he played in shaping the careers of leaders across different parts of the country.
