The Kenyan government requires an additional Sh452.9 million to complete the rehabilitation and redevelopment of its government-owned properties in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The planned works include repairs to Kenya’s diplomatic mission in Kinshasa, whose chancery was vandalised during violent protests in January 2025.

A budgetary review by the State Department for Foreign Affairs showed that Sh147.1 million had been spent on the Sh600 million project by June 2026, representing 24.5 per cent completion.

Of the amount spent, Sh120 million was used in the financial year ending June 2026, while Sh27.1 million had been spent in the previous financial year.

The government has allocated a further Sh150 million for diplomatic properties in the DRC during the current financial year ending June 2027.

An additional Sh250 million has been proposed for the financial year beginning July 2027.

The planned investment includes renovating the chancery and developing staff housing, which the government expects will help reduce rental expenses.
