Police have arrested a man accused of impersonating a police officer and extorting members of the public along Jogoo Road in Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as Augustine Mjomba Mwadime, was arrested by officers from Jogoo Road Police Station at DC Stage following a public tip-off about a man allegedly posing as a law enforcement officer to intimidate and extort unsuspecting people.
According to the police, Mwadime identified himself as Sergeant Augustine Mjomba Mwadime and claimed to be attached to the General Service Unit (GSU) Training School in Embakasi.
However, his claimed identity was questioned, prompting officers to conduct a search that allegedly uncovered items linked to the impersonation scheme.
Police recovered a forged certificate of appointment bearing a fake service number, a pair of handcuffs and two keys.
The suspect was taken into custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his expected arraignment in court.
Police have urged members of the public to report individuals suspected of impersonating law enforcement officers.
