Three women have been arrested in Migori Township after detectives recovered 55 bags of government-subsidised fertiliser allegedly being sold illegally.
The arrests followed a tip-off from members of the public, prompting detectives from Suna East to conduct an operation in the Apida area of Suna Central Location.
According to the police report, the officers found the fertiliser, which was conspicuously marked “NOT FOR SALE,” being offered for sale in an apparent violation of the restrictions governing the distribution of subsidised agricultural inputs.
The suspects, identified as Esther Mwera, Emily Akinyi and Elizabeth Kisili, were arrested and reportedly led detectives to their respective stores, where a subsequent search resulted in the recovery of 55 bags of the fertiliser.
The recovered bags were seized as exhibits as authorities moved to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal sale of the government-subsidised commodity.
The three suspects were escorted to Migori Police Station alongside the recovered fertiliser, where they were booked pending further police action.
